JediCon
[info]wedge_wp

Today I was at Jedicon. That is the largest Star Wars convention here in Brazil. It was promoted by the São Paulo Jedi Concil. I left home 10:00 pm. I was wearing my Green Lantern t-shirt the same Sheldon Cooper wears in the "Big Bang Theory". It is a green t-shirt with the Green Lantern logo on the front. To my surprise I was not the only one wearing this t-shirt at the convention, I saw 2 more guys with it. I said to one of them "of course there are too many of us we're the "Green Lantern Corps "" ! I also picket the family's camera to take photographs. It would later run out of batteries and I had to buy new ones, I was lucky there was a shop that sold office stuff nearby. I got there by subway.

The convention was at the "São Paulo Dentist Association ". The building was huge and there was a very nice theater were the main attractions took palce. I got there 11:00 pm. I figure out were the place was cause there was some folks leaving the place with Star Was costumes. I smiled at them as they passed me by. I got the entrance ticket for 12.5 USD and also paid 5 USD for the autograph secction (more of this later). After buying the entrace ticket we recieved a JediCon t-shirt. It is a black shirt with Felipe Massafera's (a Brazilian comic artist) Boba Fett's drawing. Behind the t-shirt were the sponsor's logos, mainly comic shops and toy shops. I would post a pic of the t-shirt but when I got home had already washed it to make it feel more confortable. But you can check Massafera's art bellow. Cause we got a t-shirt I thought that going to the event really paid-off.

When I got there the place was filled with people. The main attraction were the people who wore costumes. They were beautiful. What first caught my attention was the stormtrooper squad. There was actually a hole squad! Their costumes were perfect and they were carriying differnt weapons mainly imperial blasters but there was a guy with a long range rifle. People would form crowds near the guys wearing costumes and take a lot of pictures. That was their 5 minunes of fame as Andy Warhol would say. But the stormtrooper squad seemed to like being the center of attention and they would make very realistic posses to the people who were taking pictures. I walked my way through the crowd while trying not to interfere with the people who were taking pictures. Soon I would find some amazing costumes. A very realistic Darth Maul with his full body painted with red and black ink holding a two-edge lightsaber. He was next to queen Amidala with her face coverd with white makeup that made her very realistic. I took some pictures of them but the pictues ended up not being so good.

I made a quick tour to the place looking at the stuff people were selling. There was lots of stuff. Star Wars helmets, action figures, Star Wars and Star Trek replica ships, comic books, plastic model kids for you to assemby, t-shirts, bottoms and DC's action figures. I thought of buying a Green Lantern small statue but there weren't any Hal Jordan which is my favourite Green Lanter only Kyle Rayners and John Stewarts .The Star Wars comic book section was very poor there was only the Knights of Old Republic, Dark Times, Rebellion and Legacy comics which are sold here in Brazil in a sigle combo containing all of them togheter, but I don't think that these comics are very good. On the other hand there was a whole shef packed with Star Wars mangas some of them Japanese but I'm not a fan of manga. There was also some guys dressed with Star Trek costumes. That was the time when my camera ran out of batteries and I had to buy new ones.

Soon after that I made my way to the line of the autograph. That was the events main attraction. Jeremy Bullock the guy who played Boba Fett in episodes V and VI would make an apearance at the event and sing autographs and also give a speach. And here is a surprise if you actually saw the Star Wars movies you probably have already seen Jeremy Bullock's face cause he played other Star Wars characters besides Boba Fett. He played Lieutenant Sheckil in the Empire Strikes Back. Shackil is the officer that holds princess Leia in Cloud City when she screams to Luke Skywalker trying to warn him that he is falling on a trap. I waited more than 1 hour at the line for the autograph but it really was worth it. Jeremy was very sympathetic and recieved his fans with great carisma. You could actually bring something for him to sign or ask him to sign one of the pictures which were on his table. I didn't bring anything. However, you were not allowed to take picures with him. When my turn was drawing near I felt a nervous wreck. But it was all ok! I shaked hands with Jeremy and he asked "How are you doing", I replyed "fine" and said "nice to meet you". I chose one of the photographs on the table and said "this one" and handed the photograph to him. The picture on the photograph had Boba on the left corner and two imperial officers carrying Han Solo frozen in carbonite, two stormtroopers behind them and a white background. Jeremy signed on the white background "Jeremy Bullock"and below that "Boba Fett". I said to him "Thank you very much" and he replyed "Thank you". Oh my god I was so exited that must have been an epic moment in the history of my life. I posted some pictures of Jeremy sitting on his table bellow and also posted the picture he gave to me.

After recieving the autograph I decided to take a look around and see what the shops were selling. I bought the "Empire Strikes Back" and the "Return of the Jedi" comic book adaptations not in perfect shape. I also bought one "Nickel Nausea" comic book, a Brazilian comic for discount. I put my autograph on the same plastic that the "Nickel Nause" comic was in. I would only be latter that I realized that taking this walk had not been a good idea as I lost Jeremy Bullock's speach at the theater. I didn't have a schedule neither knew where the theater was! What a pitty!

After getting a shedule and heading for the theater I saw a speach about the 3D clone Wars series. There was some interesting facts as discovering that Obi Wan had a romantic relationship in the series but I don't like the series anyway. After that there was a video where some guys from Brazilia performed some lightsaber duals very realistic and very good. Their moves were quite good in fact. After that some Brazilian comic book artists who work abroad gave a speach about how was their experience drawing Star Wars comic books. After that I left the event and made my way back home.

Summing up it was great fun! I'm posting some pictures of the event bellow.

Felipe Massafera's Artwork

Felipe Massafera's Zatana's drawing. We saw a video of Mussafera's making this drawing it was quite impressive!

The t-shirt they gave to us has the lower left drawing but coulored. Massafera suggested first the leftmost drawing but it was censored cause of the girls wearing biquini!

Visit to Graffiti Artist Exhibition
[info]wedge_wp

Yesterday I went with the people from my group therapy visit an exhibition of two Brasilian graffiti artists. The artists are called "The Twins" or "Os Gêmeos" in Portuguese. They use an innovating spray technique in which the spray is applied at short range. That creates a thin line of ink with drops of ink besides the main line which creates the shading of the figure. This shading technique togheter with the yellow colour used by the artists makes the impression that their paintings have volume.

I will post some of their artwork. Most of the art posted here is made outdoors wordwide. Enjoy.

This one was actually at the exhibition and is called "Summer Rain" and it is painted on wood.

The rest of the graffiti is outdoors:
